Some pictures of my time at The Apprentice Shop in Rockport Maine back in the eighties.
Everything wears out sooner or later. This old log bridge with a wooden deck lasted a long time but it finally became dangerous and the gully underneath had become too narrow to carry the volume of water that heavy rains of Vermont could deliver. Due to the shallow depth and wide expanse, a culvert called an "Arch" was used for replacement. The arch culvert is assembled and then compressed to make it more oval shaped than round. The following pictures show the removal process and final result once completed. Sorry about the image quality. They were scanned from pictures taken back in 1990's. That handsome guy in the pictures is me. The dog's name is Lobo.
